Firstly may I introduce myself. My name is Robert Martin, I live at 20 Ashby Road, have lived in Packington for 52 years, married to Jean, we have two sons, Richard and Edward.
I have served for 12 years on the Parish Council and would like to serve the village for a further term to help provide key services for the village and the interests of the local community and look after and improve facilities in our Parish. Parish Councils are an essential part of the structure of local democracy.
I am retired having previously worked in housing management for the North West Leicestershire District Council for 32 years. In addition I was a member of the Council’s Emergency Planning Committee which dealt with emergencies in the community 24 hours.
I was chairman of the North West Leicestershire Homeless Project, a registered charity formed in 1989, based at the Marlene Reid Centre which assisted homeless people in North West Leicestershire to secure appropriate accommodation. This project was a valued and much needed service within the community. The project had to close after 25 years.
For many years I have been a member of the well organised Packington Neighbourhood Watch committed to crime and anti-social behaviour prevention.
There are several issues for the village such as speeding, street lighting and footpaths but the next years will be very important for our village. The proposed construction of HS2, if it goes ahead, and the amount of disruption cannot be pictured.
If HS2 goes ahead one of the major issues will be the closure of Ashby Road which HS2 are proposing to close for 19 months. All the village rely on doctors, chemists and schools in Ashby. Limiting the impact of HS2 construction work on residents not just from a highway perspective but on a wider context from a public health and education point of view is vital and we need to be involved in the process. We have a very much appreciated Residents Action Group which are working hard for the best interests of the village.
The Parish Council should actively encourage impact from residents on what the community needs. We make decisions on behalf of the people in the Parish. Residents can bring to the attention of the Parish Council anything that concerns them. We should be the first place you can go to with concerns or ideas.
Being an effective Parish Councillor requires both commitment and hard work and I offer my services for another term.

I am Chris Miles and I am pictured here with my wife of fifty-one years, Pauline.

We have lived in Packington all our married lives and love belonging to a small rural community. We were both teachers and I taught at Granville School in South Derbyshire for nearly forty years becoming the Head of Physical Education and Music Departments.

My current interests are; my family: the Packington Memorial Hall where I have been Chairman of the Management Committee for a considerable number of years: Testify Choir for which I accompany on piano and compose tunes: Parish Council and their associated Charities the Recreation Ground Charity and the Earl of Huntingdon Charity: I have also been active in Stop HS2.

During my time in Packington I have helped in organising; the Memorial Hall’s refurbishment, Packington Play Area Facilities, Carnivals, Concerts, Royal Celebration Days, Commemorative events; Bonfire Parties on the Recreation Ground; Duck Races on the Gilwhiskaw and have been involved in sing-alongs in the Pub at Christmas and on St George’s Day.

I have enjoyed being involved in community events and have met and become friends with a great many dedicated volunteer helpers from the village.

If elected for a further four-year term I will do my utmost to keep the spirit of Packington alive and to work tirelessly for the good of all residents.

My name is Ian Peterson and I have put my name forward to represent you as a Parish Councillor.

I have lived on High Street for almost 20 years and want to contribute to the general wellbeing of Packington. Fellow dog walkers will recognise me as the man with the boisterous whippet. I am also a regular participant in the pub quiz in the Bull & Lion on a Tuesday evening. I am 67 years old and retired in 2014 from the Commercial Manager role within a major UK construction company.

Areas where, if elected, I would hope to have an influence are:

Safety: I will actively support any initiative to address the issue of speeding through/around the village.

Security: I believe that the CCTV regime needs to be maintained and coverage extended if possible.

HS2: I believe HS2, particularly the phase which affects our village, to be unjustifiable on any basis and continually needs to be challenged.

Being a Parish Councillor is as much about working together as about the individual. Each councillor contributes their experience and skills. Having been in business all my life until retirement I have a reasonable understanding of financial matters, a dislike of red tape and box ticking, and a willingness to challenge issues if I believe them to be against the interests of the Parish. With others I have attended many meetings with NWLDC and the County Council to argue the case for Packington. Planning has presented its challenges; you win some and you lose some.

Over the years I have particularly supported community activities via the Parish Council and personally, E.g. the Annual Bonfire event, Party in the Park, Carnivals and Royal Celebrations. Involvement with other charities has helped being a trustee of the Recreation Ground and Huntingdon charities.

Looking to the future I would like to see a link to Hicks Wood for cyclists which avoids Measham Road, and a footpath to Normandy Wood which could be used by all including wheelchairs.

Packington is a great village. It has given a lot to me and my family. Together we can keep it that way.

My name is Keith Goodwin and I have lived in the village for nearly 45 years since moving into Nethercroft Drive in 1974. I am married to Sandy and together we run a small stud of ponies on Spring Lane. Some village residents will be concerned that my reasons for becoming a Councillor are self-seeking in relation to planning permission on my land. I can assure you that this is not the case.
The one thing that experience has taught me is that it is the people you meet in life that are important. It is the people within this parish that matter to me and I will do my best to represent their interests if elected to our Parish Council. I am passionate about Packington and even though we have moved houses three times, we have always stayed within the village.
Regarding what policies I will bring to the post of Parish Councillor, I can best quote those core values that I undertake in my employment as a Chartered Surveyor within the Civil Service.

‘objectivity’ is basing your advice and decisions on rigorous analysis of the evidence
‘impartiality’ is acting solely according to the merits of the situation
