HS2 Route Decision – Monday 17th July 2017 – Packington gain?

HS2 News – Packington Route Decision

Good News for Packington?  Monday 17th July 2017

“The Secretary of State has decided not to proceed with the proposed change of route at Measham, which would have seen the alignment move to the east of Measham, away from the A42. Instead, the Secretary of State is confirming a modified version of the 2013 Preferred Route to the west of Measham. In Measham itself, the route is moved approximately 80m further east from the 2013 Preferred Route and viaduct extended from 145m to 600m to mitigate commercial property impacts.”

Packington Girl Guides re-starts – Thursday Evenings in term-time

1st Packington Guides have reopened

They had their first meeting on Thursday 11th May 2017.

The Unit meets Thursdays in term time at Packington Memorial Hall from 18:30-20:00 (unless we are out and about!).

There are currently spaces for girls aged 10-14.

The unit has already started working on a Denmark Challenge badge – if you notice the smell of freshly baked Danish pastries it could be Packington Guides.
The following are planned for the rest of the term:

  • Ashby Spa and Ivanhoe District’s Dress up and Dance Evening in aid of MacMillan and Smalls for All;
  • Weekend camp, and
  • Ashby Division Swimming and BBQ evening.
  • We also hope to walk some of the Leicestershire Round, try out some crafts and start working on the Leicestershire Centenary Challenge.

Leicestershire Girlguiding are supporting the Smalls for All Charity (https://www.smallsforall.org/) so we are collecting:

  • New ladies pants size 8-16
  • New children’s pants age 5-15
  • New or gently-worn bras

Interested in Girlguiding? You would be welcome to join as a Unit Helper or Leader. Feel free to come for a taster meeting!

Village Meeting Sat 6th May 2017 – Camera System for Neighbourhood Watch

VILLAGE MEETING on Proposed Road Movement Recording

There have been several recent unsolved burglaries in our village.  A number of responses have been suggested by villagers and by our Packington Neighbourhood Watch (PNW) team.

As one response which would A) Deter, and B) Help solve, further events, PNW proposes to provide our Police Service with a CCTV facility to use cameras to record road movement to and from our village, and to store the camera records for immediate police use.

The PNW proposal will enable prompt and almost-free provision of a system.  It has been prepared by PNW and approved unanimously at the meeting of our PNW Street Representatives on 13th April 2017.

PNW now seeks YOUR views, if you live in our village.  NOTE: This meeting is for village residents ONLY.

The full proposal will be presented for discussion at a VILLAGE MEETING on Saturday 6th May 2017,  at 10 am, in our Memorial Hall

Please come and help shape the future of crime prevention in our village.  There will be opportunity for discussion, and for YOUR thoughts on other possible responses to recent events.
