We would like to thank the previous editor, Barry Alldread, who has led the Post over the last couple of years despite being extremely busy in a hectic business life, organising the Ashby 20 annual road race, and many other personal commitments.
The copy date for my September issue is 4pm Monday 7th September 2015 , but earlier copy would be much appreciated, please send by email to: editor at packington dot info Distribution: weekend of 19/20th September.
As the new Editor I am looking forward to articles/reports from, and covering:-
- Individuals,
- Voluntary Groups and all village institutions,
- Dates for the diary page,
- Incidents,
- Charitable activities
- Events,
- Special achievements, Exam results etc
- Letters to the editor
- and lots more that I am sure you can think of that would be of interest to residents and form an important historical record of Village life for future generations.
Every village household receives a FREE copy
Packington Post is the main communication medium for the whole village, and we welcome all contributions about anything relating to or affecting Packington and close neighbouring areas.

All items received will be reviewed by the editorial committee and may be shortened or edited depending on space available.

Will they continue to fund Packington Post?
5 of our 6 Parish Councillors are pictured above with their Council Clerk at their first meeting in May 2015, when they decided to hold their June monthly meeting today, Tuesday 2nd June 2015, and to decide today whether to continue to fund the Packington Post – or not.
You may want to make your voice heard – if so, pop along to Memorial Hall Meeting Room for 7pm, prior to the Parish Council meeting at 7:15. Members of the public are welcome to be present at all Parish Council Meetings, and to speak before them.

Vista Sight-loss Charity in Packington 10am Monday 20th April 2015
On Monday 20th April 2015 the Vista Van will be in the car park of Packington Memorial Hall, offering free eye health checks, from 10 am – noon.
“Vista” is the Royal Leicestershire, Rutland & Wycliffe Society for the Blind, a charity established in 1858. More details here: https://www.vistablind.org.uk/
From a specially adapted vehicle, Vista’s services go ‘on the road’ and engage with older people in pre-existing community groups, GP surgeries, and places of worship to deliver our message of preventative eye health.
Vista’s priority target group for the outreach programme is older people in the community who have sight loss or are at risk of developing a sight loss condition, particularly those individuals who live in rural areas of the county and are susceptible to suffering from social isolation and loneliness.

Are you in this group, of older people who are already experiencing sight loss, or at risk of it ? Come along and find out about an early prevention programme for your future.
By providing preventative information and raising awareness of the range of services and new technologies that can support people with sight loss, the programme helps to limit the negative impact that a diagnosis has on peoples’ lives.
The bus is booked for Packington Memorial Hall car park from 10.00am – 12 noon on Monday 20th April 2015
We understand that a charity collection facility will be available concurrently for you to dispose of your unwanted items, to help VistaBlind with their new charity-shops initiative.
