To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the National Forest, May 2016 brings a Walking Festival of guided and themed walks.
You may not realise how new facilities have sprung up around our village in recent years – such as the peaceful Diamond Jubilee Wood, just up the road, near Normanton – a lake, a nascent forest, a nature hide, wide footpaths, free car park – try the FREE guided walk circuit of the woods, on Saturday 14th May at 10:30am at the Woodland Trust Car Park. Details at Left.
Or try the FREE guided walk on Sunday 15th May at 10 am from Hick’s Lodge, on lovely open parkland created from old colliery sites. Details:
Twenty-five years in, there are now many beautiful local places to explore, and this festival has walks for all ages and abilities to enjoy. 80 – yes Eighty! – events are available throughout the National Forest, not just near our village.
However, close to home, there are four ‘Achille Wood and Farm Walks’ in the festival, which start adjacent to Packington village at Hill Farm along Spring Lane. Have you seen the Bison and Alpaca herds there yet? Picture below!
