Chris Green to Retire – Best wishes from Packington, Chris!
Chris Green, our long-serving Mobile Librarian, is pictured above scanning a book code in the mobile library he drives and operates in our village every second Thursday. Chris is to retire on Friday 18th July 2014.
Chris scanned and date-stamped his last book in Packington on Thursday 17th July 2014. Some village library users were on hand to wish him a happy retirement, although the news had not been widely disseminated.
Asked by Packington Post about his future, Chris said he was looking forward to continuing a busy life. “With 6 grand-children living locally, I’m unlikely to be short of things to do.”
There is some uncertainty about when the service will be resumed. The next visit is advertised as being in 4 weeks, on Thursday 14th August 2014 at 11am at 40 High Street, opposite The Grange. This is advertised as being followed a month later on 11 September, then 9th October, 6th November and 4th December.
Leics County Council are believed to be interviewing for 2 new librarian / operators to fill the vacancy; candidates need to have Certificates of Professional Competence for Heavy Vehicles, as well as being librarians! We hope to bring news of the service resumption and confirmation of the dates and times.
