This gave him an abiding interest in the country, which he subsequently visited many times.\u00a0 He illustrated his talk with slides, which proved most interesting.<a href=\"https:\/\/packington.info\/bloggle\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Competitions2w178h180_4k.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-738\" alt=\"Competitions2w178h180_4k\" src=\"https:\/\/packington.info\/bloggle\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Competitions2w178h180_4k.jpg\" width=\"81\" height=\"82\" srcset=\"https:\/\/packington.info\/bloggle\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Competitions2w178h180_4k.jpg 178w, https:\/\/packington.info\/bloggle\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Competitions2w178h180_4k-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 81px) 100vw, 81px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The competition, for A Memento of Russia<\/strong>, was won by Hazel Brown, with a Russian doll. Second was Margaret Stalker (a Cossack hat), and third Ruth Morris (a samovar).\u00a0 A vote of thanks to the speaker was proposed by Beryl Latham.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sue Talbot acted as secretary for the evening<\/strong> in the absence of Sandra Hawley, who is currently in Coalville Hospital and much missed. Several members have visited her and it is hoped she will soon be well enough to resume her post.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New committee members are urgently needed<\/strong> \u2013 the <strong>Annual General Meeting is on November 7<\/strong>, so now is the time to put your name forward.<\/p>\n<p>The <a title=\"The Help Out Mill\" href=\"https:\/\/www.helpoutmillrestaurant.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Help Out Mill<\/strong><\/a> in Shackerstone is the venue for the annual <strong>Ivanhoe Group lunch on October 19<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Betty Carter writes: Packington WI\u2019s October meeting was well attended, and members enjoyed a talk entitled A Tourist\u2019s View of Russia by local resident David Fill.
